:typerhappy: ¡Y recuerden, mañana hay versión en español at yendoacasa.koolyfish.com!

:bulletpink: First and foremost, have you guys seen my crossover works with CookieArts-ma? She drew and I colored it, and another one viceversa! It's a clash of styles and toolsets! Digital vs Traditional, Pencils vs. Inkscape! The crossover of the millenium, indeed! Take that, Capcom/Namco.

:bulletblack: Second and foreless, before we head into Movie Talk, I want to announce that I'll be taking a three week break from the comic to enjoy a bit more chilled Christmas, New Years Eve and my birthday, that's on January 7. I'll upload page #40 here next week, but after that, the comic will resume January 11th at the main site, and January 18th here at deviantArt. I'll still keep things updated around here with movie talks and extra art from LbH, but also, requests! Yes, if you want me to sketch something for you, just let me know in the comments section here and I'll make some time for it. Just keep it classy and simple and we'll be ready to go! Any topics are welcome, from LbH and film to I don't know, whatever you have in mind. So it'll be a sketch, so don't expect anything Daily Deviation worthy, alright? ;)

:bulletgreen: So onwards with Movie Talk. Last week I said 12 Years a Slave wasn't being much of a consensus thing, since American Hustle and Her kinda stole its thunder? If last week's an indicator of anything, is that I'm a crappy prognosticator. 12 Years is pretty much sweeping every other regional critic's circle, very much like The Social Network did in the day -- like as if there was no competition, 12 Years is the one best movie of all 2013. More than 15 groups have announced their winners, and easily 13, 14 of them have gone with 12 Years. But much like The Social Network, that's why I'm unsure about it being the consensus film here. 12 Years may be winning best picture, but it's also been pretty occurrent that Gravity gets more awards -- cinematography, editing, directing for sure, and score and best actress for Sandy Bullock if they're really feeling like it. That, and the fact that it seems that there is some mutedness around it at the Academy, and the fact that Gravity and American Hustle are coming up really strong with them, makes me think that for all these critics award 12 Years is getting, nothing's set in stone yet. It's sort of a repeat of last year's Oscars, in a way. There's the historical drama (12 Years is the new Lincoln), the 3D spectacle (Gravity's the new Life of Pi),  and the crowdpleasing ensemble comedy/thriller (American Hustle's the new Argo). Which one they'll like better this time around? All of them make compelling cases.

:bulletgreen: This time I got to see six films. I can't go super-on-and-on about each of them, so I'll try to be brief about them.

:bulletblue: Abdellatif Kechiche's Blue is the Warmest Color. This movie. This movie, indeed. Some people love its intimacy, others hate its sleazyness. I'm sort of in the middle. I really respect the physicality and emotional lenghts of Adèle Exarchopolous and Léa Seydoux, but this movie's second act's nothing short of a pornographic intermission. The movie's about the lesbian blooming of Adele after sharing glances with Emma, an older blue-haired girl. We see how Adèle grows, develops, and deals with adulthood. The two girls here make an exceptional work, but as I mentioned, the second's act's not great. They get it on, and it goes on, and on, and on, and on... and boy how do they go. It's not badly executed faux-porn, but it's uncomfortable to watch for such a long period of time, especially when they come by so abruptly, breaking whatever context they had before. Hard to recommend unless you're really, really into this sort of thing. You know. Super explicit, well performed teen lesbian romantic dramas. Just keep your hands away from yourself, thank you very much.

:bulletred: Holy shit, an actual cosplay of Ron Howard's Rush! And they have a group dedicated to the movie and all. Unbelievable. Wasn't expecting it around here. A few drawings of Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, and Loki mocking him because of it, maybe, but not a full blown cosplay. Damn son. In any case, you probably already heard about Rush, if you're from the US or Europe. It's about the heated rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, played by Daniel Brühl, all taking place during the 1976 F1 season. First third or so of the movie's a bit hard to take seriously. Too glam and rock-n-rollish, with plenty of one-liners, and little interaction between Hunt and Lauda. However, once they start racing, it's on. The visuals are creative and quite graphic when it comes to injuries and risks, all meant to show you how intimidating F1 can be, yet at the same time, Brühl's and Hunt's mutual assholiness/bromanciness shows you how thrilling the sport can get. It's not up to par with Senna, when it comes down to F1 movies, but it's one that'll keep your heart pounding just as much. Just sort of skip the first act and you'll be set.

:bulletyellow: Paolo Sorrentino's The Great Beauty. A movie about a wealthy and successful writer who once wrote this highly influential and critically acclaimed novel, but nowadays no longer finds the will to write a new book either in himself or in others. He drifts around lavish parties with a cynical, aloof face, sharing similarly shaped quips, pondering about the state of things, art, society, and Rome. I don't know. I sort of liked but not too much Sorrentino's previous effort, This Must Be The Place (of which I found a handful of artwork, but no such luck with this one, sadly), but that could be because that movie had a definitive aim, a set goal Sean Penn had to reach (and a way, way better soundtrack, too. THAT performance of "This Must Be The Place" is part of my weekly playlist, I mean... damn. Here, what do we got? "Panamericano"? Sigh). Here, however, our protagonist's just... impenetrably snob. He's got no pleasures, no thrills, no desires, no big-anythings, and though these are some of the topics he also brought up on This Must Be The Place, here it all feels challengingly empty. At two hours and 15 minutes, it's a really tough sit. Not for me.

Riot by Danae141
:bulletpink: Mike Lerner & Maxim Pozdorovkin's Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer. A documentary detailing the origins and the sudden, dramatic, and controversial rise to notoriety of the all-female punk-rock artistic movement from a very conservative and religious Russia. I suppose you've heard the news about these girls. They entered a sacred altar at Moscow's most important orthodox church, and performed a song denouncing the local marriage of religion and state, and of course, condemning Putin in the process. They were arrested and treated like heretical witches by the most conservatives media outlets and citizens, but they do have people (big international artists among them) rallying for them, protesting to see them free for their non-crimes. It's an enfuriating and inspiring piece of work, a very reflecting film for our very rapidly changing times. Times of resisting change, in favor of conformism and tradition, against the new and the different. It's one I'd recommend, without a doubt, though if there's one thing is that it ends up encapsulating itself a bit too much to Russia and Moscow, resigning to a rather reduced and unavoidable conclusion. Given how internationally mediatic their struggle's got, a wider scope would've been nicer, I imagine, but still. Check it out.

DON JON by Bniedahobbit
:bulletwhite: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Don Jon. Another movie you probably already heard of, non-chilean readers. JGL's directorial debut, a story about a Jersey Shore-ish guy very much addicted to porn. He can get laid with whatever chick he finds, but it's porn where it's at for him. Look. I like the guy. He's always fun, ready for action, and he's consistently in best-of-year films, no doubt. He's got his HitRECord thing to crowdsource his ideas and all. But this time... I feel he's kinda testing my appreciation for him. This movie's a bit too much for him. It's a role decidedly fun for him to do, but it's so fun it looks like he was a bit too distracted to put the whole thing together appropiatedly, even if he's clearly applying some of the best editing notes from the films   he's been in. Given its raunchy and sleazy subject matter, it's so puritane and PG-13. Barely a boob. JGL's naked having "who cares, I could be watching porn" sex. Scarlett Johanssen and Julianne Moore are definitely NOT GETTING NAKED FOR THIS. But moreso than that, this movie feels unbelievably incomplete. I sat there in disbelief when it ended, because as it is, it needs at least an hour and a half more to be a actual, finished product. And it doesn't look like it's going for a sequel or anything, either. It has such an abrupt and jarring ending, leaving so many things unresolved and unmentioned, that you can't even say it's a happy ending, because it's not even an ending! It barely starts anything to say it'll be leading to an actual conclusion! Hell, when you think about, why is the movie called "Don Jon"? The amount of girls he gets in this movie can be counted with one hand! The same hand Jon uses for porn, of course. I can't honestly recommend it, unless you're thinking of checking it out for the MTV Movie Awards, as it'll clearly be headed there. "Biggest WTF-inducing moment", "Best Kiss", "Best Shirtless Performance", "Best Couple (Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Porn)". All of them, checked.

Metegol by Kna
:bulletgreen: Juan José Campanella's Metegol (or Foosball, if you're from the US). The argentinian director of the pretty damn good neo-noir detective story The Secret of Their Eyes moves on to the land of animation with Metegol, a story about a foosball table whose toy players become alive, just in time for the town to be destroyed! The movie's about Amadeo, a foosball prodigy who once beat this actual football (as in soccer) prodigy in foosball. The bully, always a sore loser, joined forces with a shady manager to one day become so successful as a soccer player he'll return one day to his hometown to demolish it and build the world's biggest stadium over it. Things haven't been great for Amadeo, not now with his town in the brink of destruction, nor in his life, with his foosball passion being the only thing he's got in his life. But when one of his falling tears falls on his tiny foosball team captain (yeah, he's got them sorted out by name and positions, with modded designs and such), he comes alive! and with him, the rest of the foosball field. It's a pretty silly plot that tries its best not to fall too hard into Toy Story territory, and... welp. It's a bit hard to like at first. It's decidedly a movie with nothing new or deep to tell, and the first third goes from unbearably cliché to bearably boring. Things get better once the foosball players come to life though, but not because they have a whole lot to bring to the table. They're not going to share with you some serious soccer life lesson or anything, like, I don't know... "it doesn't matter if you're offside, you gotta make that goal!", or something. They all have their one personality and that's it. Some of them are more racists than others, but that's fine. If the movie gets better is because now they have more characters to play with. Not better characters, but more, and at least there's some healthy variety in them. Still, I'm not 100% sure if they actually needed that the foosball players came to life to make the plot work (check it out to see why), but at least they make for a lively bunch. It has some bad lows but it keeps a steady growth from there, and although it never reaches greatness, it still ends on a decent note.

:#1: Welp! That's it for now! I'll be taking a break during the holidays and my birthday, but I'll still be around to post movie talks and LbH related content! Don't forget to check out CookieArts-ma's gallery, too, and that if there's something you'd like me to draw, you can suggest it now! Best of luck, and have a happy everything! :)
